Structure of the Competence Network

Over 40 research groups from academia, industry, and clinics are funded within this funding priority to support interdisciplinary research, to establish methods and tools and to develop reality-based models of physiological processes in hepatic cell model systems.

Four large interdisciplinary collaborative network projects were proposed to the BMBF following an international evaluation process of the submitted research proposals. These is the network detoxification, coordinated by Prof. Reuss in Stuttgart; the network endocytosis, managed by Prof. Zerial in Dresden; the network iron regulation, managed by Prof. Reich in Berlin and the network regeneration, managed by Prof. Timmer in Freiburg.

To support the work of the four collaborative network projects and to establish and maintain a national competence network in systems biology, technology platforms for Cell Biology and Modeling were formed.
