Overall concept of the promotional focus
Out of the individual funding applications allotted within the BMBFs promotional activity ´Systems of Life – Systems Biology´, an overall concept for HepatoSys was developed by the scientific project committee. The objective of this superordinate concept is to bring all individual projects together in a national Systems Biology competence network and to strengthen further collaboration.
A detailed milestone plan as part of the overall concept provides information about the current state of the implementation of all research endeavors in the technology platforms and research groups focusing on the Systems Biology of hepatocytes. When looking at the further development of Systems Biology two areas are of particular importance, one being interdisciplinary European and international collaboration, the other being interdisciplinary education of junior scientists who need to have an equal understanding of biological experiments, mathematical algorithms and the depiction of quantitatively ascertainable biological processes in silico. Therefore in 2007 the German Federal Government set up four centres for Systems Biology at Freiburg, Heidelberg, Magdeburg and Potsdam within the programme "ForSys" .
